Terms of Service

These terms govern your access to and use of the Beacone website and service. They are to be read together with the privacy policy and the refund policy.

Effective 18 September 2026

Beacone is operated by Dimitrios Karamanis, a sole trader established in Denmark.

Notices and questions concerning these terms are to be sent to support@beacone.dev. The processing of personal data is governed by the privacy policy. Cancellation, the right of withdrawal and refunds are governed by the refund policy.

By creating an account or using the service you accept these terms. Do not use the service, if you do not accept the above mentioned terms.

1. The service

Beacone is a notification routing service. It receives events from GitHub through a GitHub App installation, applies the filtering rules you configure, and delivers matching events to a destination you connect in Telegram or Slack. It also generates scheduled summaries of work that GitHub reports as outstanding for you.

The service does not read source code, does not clone repositories, and does not act on GitHub’s behalf beyond the read permissions granted to the App.

Access is limited by capacity. The operator maintains a maximum number of accounts that the infrastructure supports, and account creation may be replaced by a waiting list when that maximum is reached.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account and use the service, which is the minimum age GitHub itself requires for an account. By accepting these terms you represent that you meet that minimum, that you have the capacity to enter into this agreement, and that no applicable law prevents you from using the service.

An account is created only by authorizing GitHub. That authorization is required for the operation of the service and cannot be removed while the account remains active. To close the account, delete it from Account settings; deletion and its limits are described in the privacy policy.

A Google identity may be linked as an additional method of signing in. It cannot create an account and is not used for delivery.

You are responsible for all activity conducted under your account and for maintaining the confidentiality of your session credentials. You must provide accurate information and must be entitled to grant the GitHub permissions the service requires. Notify support without delay if you have reason to believe your account has been used without authorization.

3. Plans and plan limits

The service offers a free plan and paid plans. Paid plans are not yet available for purchase; until checkout opens, every account is on the free plan. A paid plan is licensed per individual user. Certain plans are licensed per seat to a business for use by the members of a GitHub organization. The limits applying to each plan are published with that plan.

The operator may modify plan limits, including the limits of the free plan, as the service develops. A modification that reduces what the free plan includes will be announced in the product and, where it affects delivery, in the documentation describing it. Your continued use of the service after a modification takes effect constitutes acceptance of the modification.

A modification does not apply to a paid period for which payment has already been made. If you do not accept a modification to a paid plan, cancel that plan before the end of the current period.

Cancellation, the right of withdrawal and refunds are governed by the refund policy.

4. Acceptable use

You undertake not to, and not to permit any third party to:

  • resell, sublicense, lease or otherwise make the service available to any person who does not hold their own account and, where the applicable plan requires it, their own seat;
  • use the service to collect, aggregate or monitor the content of repositories you are not authorized to access, or to compile a dataset of third-party source code, issues or comments;
  • circumvent, or attempt to circumvent, any plan limit, capacity limit or rate limit;
  • generate webhook traffic, authorization requests or delivery volume that degrades the service for other users;
  • use the service to transmit unsolicited messages, or to harass any person;
  • reverse engineer, scrape, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the service or its interfaces.

The operator may suspend or terminate an account that breaches this section. Where a breach is minor and capable of being remedied, the operator will ordinarily give notice and a reasonable opportunity to remedy it before suspension.

5. Third-party services

The service depends on GitHub and, as your selected delivery destination, on Telegram or Slack. Your use of each of those services is additionally governed by the terms of its provider, and each provider may modify, restrict or revoke the access on which the service depends.

If GitHub revokes or expires the stored credential, your account remains intact but delivery ceases until you authorize again. If your delivery destination is disconnected or blocks the application, messages cannot be delivered. In neither case is the operator in breach of these terms, and in neither case is delivery attempted again: an event that could not be delivered is not resent.

6. Availability and support

The service is provided on an as-is and as-available basis. The operator makes no commitment as to uptime, continuity or availability, offers no service level agreement and no service credits, and does not warrant that any particular notification will be delivered.

GitHub, Telegram and Slack each impose rate limits. The service paces its requests against those limits, which may delay delivery.

A scheduled summary is not generated where GitHub reports no outstanding work, where your GitHub connection requires re-authorization, or where no delivery destination is connected. A summary not generated while the service was unavailable is not generated retrospectively.

Support is provided by email at support@beacone.dev. The operator does not commit to a response time.

7. Security

Credentials you grant are encrypted at rest, access to the database is restricted, and inbound webhooks are verified by cryptographic signature.

The service caches the list of repositories you can access for five minutes and treats a stale cache as a denial. Access revoked on GitHub’s side therefore ceases to have effect within that window and not immediately.

No method of transmission or storage is entirely secure, and the operator does not warrant that the service is free from security defects. If you believe your account or your data has been compromised, notify support and revoke the GitHub App installation.

8. Intellectual property

The service, and all intellectual property rights in it, including the software, the website, the documentation, the filtering logic and the branding, are and remain the exclusive property of the operator. Nothing in these terms transfers any such right to you.

The operator grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable and revocable licence to access and use the service for your own benefit, or for the benefit of the organization on whose behalf you use it, in each case subject to these terms. The licence ends when these terms end.

You retain all rights in the information you provide and in the GitHub events the service processes on your behalf. The operator is granted only the rights necessary to operate the service for you, which are the rights to process those events, to apply the rules you configure and to deliver the resulting messages to the destination you select. Those rights are described in the privacy policy.

You acquire no right to use the name, marks or branding of the operator or of Beacone, other than as necessary to identify the service.

9. Indemnification

You will defend, indemnify and hold harmless the operator from and against any third-party claim, and any damages, costs and reasonable legal expenses resulting from it, to the extent arising out of your misuse of the service, your breach of these terms, or your violation of any applicable law or of the rights of a third party.

The operator will notify you promptly of any claim to which this section applies, and you may assume its defence. The operator will cooperate reasonably, at your expense, and will not settle such a claim in a manner that imposes an obligation on you without your prior consent.

This section does not apply to the extent a claim arises from the operator’s own breach of these terms, or from a matter for which the operator is liable under section 10.

10. Limitation of liability

The operator is liable without limitation for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, for damage arising from injury to life, body or health, and under any statutory liability that cannot be limited or excluded.

For slight negligence the operator is liable only where a material obligation has been breached, that is, an obligation whose performance is a precondition of the proper execution of these terms and on whose compliance you may ordinarily rely. In that case liability is limited to damage that was foreseeable and typical of the service at the time the obligation was breached.

Subject to the two preceding paragraphs, liability for indirect loss and consequential loss is excluded, including lost profits, lost savings, loss of data, a missed review, a delayed response, and any business consequence of a notification that was not delivered.

The aggregate liability of the operator for any claim is limited to the amounts you paid for the service in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

Notifications are prompts to review GitHub. The underlying work and its outcome remain your responsibility. The service is not a system of record, and you should not rely on it as the sole means of identifying matters requiring your attention.

11. Term and termination

These terms apply from the date you create an account or first use the service, and continue until terminated.

You may terminate at any time by deleting your account from Account settings. A paid plan may be cancelled at any time and remains in effect until the end of the period paid for.

The operator may suspend or terminate your account for a breach of these terms, for misuse of the service, or where GitHub reports the installation as unauthorized.

The operator may discontinue the service. In that event paid plans are cancelled and the unused portion of any paid period is refunded.

Sections 9, 10, 13 and 14, and any other provision that by its nature is intended to survive, continue in effect after termination.

12. Changes to these terms

The operator may modify these terms. The effective date above is updated on modification, and a material modification is announced in the product or through an account channel. If you continue to use the service after a modification takes effect, the terms as modified apply. If you do not accept a modification, delete your account.

13. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them, are governed by Danish law. Subject to the following paragraph, the courts of Denmark have exclusive jurisdiction.

If you are a consumer, that choice of law does not deprive you of the protection afforded to you by the mandatory provisions of the law of the country in which you have your habitual residence, and that choice of jurisdiction does not deprive you of the right to bring or defend proceedings in that country where the law applicable to you so provides. Consumers resident in the European Union, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom retain the rights conferred on them by that law, including the right of withdrawal described in the refund policy.

14. General

These terms, together with the privacy policy and the refund policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and the operator in relation to the service.

If any provision of these terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force and effect. A failure by the operator to enforce any provision is not a waiver of that provision or of any other.

You may not assign or transfer these terms or any right under them. The operator may assign or transfer them in connection with a transfer of the service.

Notices to you are given by email to the address associated with your account or through the product. Notices to the operator are given by email to support@beacone.dev.
